How long is an Australia Online ETA/eVisitor valid for?
Once approved, an Australia Online ETA (Electronic Travel Authority) or eVisitor visa is generally valid for 12 months from the date it is granted, or until your passport expires, whichever comes first. During its validity, you can enter Australia multiple times, making it a convenient option for tourists and eligible business visitors.
Each time you enter Australia, you may stay for up to three months. After leaving the country, you can return again as long as your ETA or eVisitor remains valid and you continue to meet the visa conditions.
Key validity details
- Visa validity: Up to 12 months from the grant date.
- Entries allowed: Multiple entries during the validity period.
- Maximum stay per visit: Up to 3 months.
- Purpose of travel: Tourism, visiting family or friends, certain business visitor activities, and short-term study or training (subject to visa conditions).
It's important to note that the 12-month validity period does not allow you to stay continuously in Australia for 12 months. Instead, each individual visit is generally limited to three months. If you wish to remain longer, you'll need to apply for another visa that matches your travel purpose before your authorized stay ends.
Also, your ETA or eVisitor is electronically linked to the passport used in your application. If your passport expires or you obtain a new passport, you'll typically need to apply for a new ETA or eVisitor before traveling to Australia.
