How to Get from Sydney Airport to Downtown?

Take the train from Sydney Airport to Sydney CBD

For most travelers, the Airport Link train is the fastest and most convenient option. Sydney Airport has stations at both the International Terminal (T1) and Domestic Terminals (T2/T3).

Trains connect the airport with central Sydney, with services running approximately every 10 minutes. The journey to the city takes around 13 minutes, making the train particularly useful if you're traveling during busy road-traffic periods.

The airport stations accept Opal cards and contactless payment with eligible credit or debit cards and mobile devices. Remember to tap on when entering and tap off when leaving.

The airport station access fee is charged on top of the standard train fare. It does not count toward the regular Opal daily or weekly travel caps, although airport station access fees have their own weekly cap.

Take a taxi to the city

A taxi can be a practical option if you have heavy luggage, are traveling with children, or prefer door-to-door transport. Taxi ranks are available outside each terminal.

Since 3 November 2025, a fixed-fare trial has applied to eligible unbooked taxi trips from Sydney Airport taxi ranks to the designated Sydney CBD area. The fare is AUD 60 for a standard taxi and AUD 80 for a maxi taxi when requested or when carrying five or more passengers, subject to the trial conditions.

Use a rideshare service

Ride-share options like Uber are also present at Sydney Airport. Rather than having the person pick you up immediately outside the arrival gate, follow the signs to the specially designated ride-share or priority pickup points.
